The Region

Business with a heart. Right in the heart of Sweden.

One region, two central cities – Falun and Borlänge. Millennia-old traditions and revolutionary thinking go hand in hand here and form the foundation for a unique and winning business climate. Here is where 150,000 residents live and work, right in what is often referred to as “the heart of Sweden”.

In the Falun-Borlänge region, people are happy and companies flourish. Both small and interesting up-and-comers and market-leading companies are represented. This is where exciting new design is born, where tomorrow’s music is created, where sports are given centre court. And now we’re growing. Would you like to grow with us?

The men and women of Dalarna have always been known for their industry and ingenuity, their courage and their curiosity. Maybe it’s something in the rich soil. Or in the pure air. Or perhaps a combination of both. What do we know? Only that it works. Obviously.

Take the Stora Enso paper mill in Kvarnsveden, for example, which is the proud owner of the world’s largest and fastest paper manufacturing machinery. A gigantic creation, this high-tech machine has the capacity to turn out nearly two kilometres of paper a minute.

Or how about ABB in Ludvika? ABB is a global leader in electrical engineering and conducts ground-breaking research to secure energy supply for future generations. The energy dilemma is quickly becoming an issue of life or death for the entire human race. That the solution to this problem – or at least part of it – can come from Ludvika is an idea that may boggle some minds. But it is an idea that is far from improbable.

The region also boasts several successful carpentry workshops. Gustafs Trä, for example, manufactures wood panels that adorn the walls of several high-profile projects throughout the world, including the new Swedish embassy in Washington D.C. and the Olympic ice-skating arena in Turin.

Falun Borlänge-regionen AB works on assignment from our owner municipalities Falun, Borlänge, Ludvika, Säter, Smedjebacken and Gagnef. Our work launches from the innovative and international environment that surrounds us, and our assignment is to utilize the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of the people of our region. We are keenly attentive to our traditions. With these as our backbone, we work – with drive, tolerance and courage – toward common goals and future challenges.
